Hikvision Software & Remote Access Policy

Last updated: 23 March 2026

This page outlines the software options, licensing requirements, remote access methods, limitations, and security considerations relevant to Hikvision CCTV and digital signage systems supplied or configured by CustomLink.

1. Standard Remote Viewing

Recommended Method

CustomLink configures Hik-Connect as the standard remote access method for Hikvision systems unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Hik-Connect:

  • Enables secure cloud-based remote viewing
  • Does not require port forwarding
  • Is suitable for most residential and small commercial installations
  • Is CustomLink’s recommended method for remote access

2. Hikvision Software Options

Upon request, CustomLink may assist with Hikvision software setup or PC-based viewing software. Unless specified in writing, Hikvision PC software does not form part of any CCTV or digital signage installation.

2.1 iVMS-4200

Free Software

iVMS-4200 is Hikvision’s free client software for local and remote viewing.

Limitations:

  • It may be resource-intensive on some PCs
  • Cloud-based viewing via a Hik-Connect account may be slower than local viewing
  • Performance depends on PC specifications and network bandwidth
  • It is designed primarily as a monitoring client rather than an enterprise VMS

2.2 Hik-Central Lite

Free Version

Hik-Central Lite is free software intended for:

  • Single-Site Monitoring
  • Basic Centralised Viewing

Limits and limitations:

  • Free for up to 16 video devices
  • Limited to one site
  • Restricted feature set compared with the professional version
  • Not suitable for multi-site enterprise management

2.3 Hik-Central Professional

Licensed Software

For multi-site or enterprise deployments, Hik-Central Professional may be required.

This software:

  • Supports multi-site central management
  • Requires a paid licence for each device or channel as applicable
  • Involves additional software and configuration costs

Licensing fees are separate and are not included unless specified in writing.

2.4 HikCentral FocSign

Digital Signage Software

HikCentral FocSign is Hikvision software used for supported digital signage applications.

Limits and limitations:

  • Free for up to 5 digital signage devices
  • Additional licensing or software requirements may apply depending on the project scope and manufacturer changes
  • Installation, setup, and support apply only to the functions specified in writing and/or are limited by the included time allowance

3. PC Software Installation Scope

Where Hikvision PC software is included, installation is limited to the number of PC workstations specified in the quotation, at the same site as the CCTV or digital signage installation, and on the same installation day only.

Installation of PC software at a later date, on additional PCs, or at other sites will incur additional charges.

Due to the wide range of features and functions available within these software platforms, installation, setup, and support apply only to the functions specified in writing and/or are limited by the time allowance included.

4. Remote Access Methods

There are two main ways to enable remote viewing.

4.1 Cloud Access

Hik-Connect — Recommended

Hik-Connect is CustomLink’s recommended remote viewing method because it is:

  • Secure
  • Simple to deploy
  • Suitable for most installations
  • Lower risk than opening ports on the customer’s router

Port forwarding is not required.

4.2 Direct IP Access

Port Forwarding — Optional

Direct remote access without Hik-Connect requires ports to be opened on the customer’s router.

Important Security Notice:

  • Port forwarding may increase exposure to external network threats
  • Router and network security become the customer’s responsibility
  • Some insurers or IT providers may not recommend open ports
  • Static IP or DDNS may be required

CustomLink will only configure port forwarding if it is specifically requested in writing.

CustomLink is not responsible for network security risks resulting from customer-approved port forwarding.

5. Customer Responsibility

Customers are responsible for:

  • Ensuring their PC meets the software performance requirements
  • Maintaining secure router and network configuration
  • Reviewing manufacturer software limitations
  • Purchasing required licences where applicable

6. Performance & Limitation Disclaimer

CustomLink configures and tests the system based on manufacturer specifications available at the time of installation or setup.

Software performance, cloud speed, and PC responsiveness depend on factors including:

  • Internet Speed
  • Router Performance
  • PC Specifications
  • Background Applications
  • Manufacturer Updates

CustomLink is not responsible for performance limitations caused by third-party software, customer hardware, internet service, router configuration, or other network conditions.
