All indoor and outdoor detectors, including those for gates and garage doors, can be programmed to trigger one or more responses, including:

• Full alarm activation, including internal sirens, external sirens and notifications
• Voice alert only
• Lighting response only
• Combined alarm, voice alert, lighting response and other programmed functions

Different responses can be programmed for different detectors, times of day, days of the week, alarm modes and other programmed conditions. All functions can be scheduled, automated and controlled through the mobile app and keypads.

Alarm Functions

The system can be armed in different modes, such as Away, Stay and Night, depending on how the home is being used.

When an alarm occurs, the system can be programmed to trigger:

• Internal sirens
• External sirens
• Mobile app notifications
• Selected lights after sunset
• Voice alerts in selected areas
• Different responses for different detectors or areas

The system can also be configured to automatically arm and disarm at programmed times or under other programmed conditions.

Voice alerts, lighting responses and alarm functions can work together automatically based on the time of day, day of the week, alarm mode, detector, or other programmed conditions.

For example, an outdoor detector can be programmed to turn on selected lights and play a voice alert when someone approaches in the evening. Later at night, the same detector may only play a voice alert when one detector is triggered, but escalate to activate sirens and send alarm notifications if two or more detectors are triggered within a programmed period.

Voice Alert Functions

Voice alerts are spoken messages played locally through the voice speakers installed around the property.

Speakers can be scheduled to turn on and off automatically, or selected areas can be manually enabled, disabled or muted where programmed.

Voice alerts can be used as an early warning, reminder or deterrent before a full alarm is activated.

Each detector can be programmed to play a different voice message when movement or intrusion is detected.

Garage door and gate detectors can announce whether a door or gate is open or closed, without needing to physically check it.

Voice alerts can also be used to remind occupants that doors or gates have been left open, announce system events, or provide spoken messages for other programmed functions.

Lighting Functions

All sensors can be programmed to act like sensor lights by turning on one or more selected lights when movement is detected.

Selected sensors can automatically operate in sensor light mode after sunset, at bedtime or during other programmed times.

This is useful for everyday convenience, but also helps improve security by lighting up selected areas when activity is detected.

When the system is armed in Away Mode, selected lights can automatically turn on and off at random after sunset to help make the home appear occupied and deter unwanted visitors. This Away Lighting Mode automatically stops at bedtime or when the system is disarmed.

Different detectors can control different lights or groups of lights. Lighting can also work together with voice alerts and alarm functions to provide different responses depending on the time of day, the alarm mode or the detector that was activated.

These schedules and functions can be adjusted by the user where programmed.

Other Functions

The system can periodically check selected doors and gates, then play a reminder if they are left open.

Where suitable equipment and safety controls are installed, motorised doors and gates can also be programmed to close automatically after being left open for a set period, or when no movement is detected around the area.

When the system is disarmed from Away Mode, it can automatically recognise that you are returning home. If the garage door and vehicle gate are closed, they can automatically open, while selected lights can also turn on to welcome you home.

Detectors can be used to monitor children entering restricted or unwanted areas and provide a voice alert, notification or alarm response.

The system can also be programmed to send a notification or play a voice alert if no movement is detected for a set period of time. This can be useful for checking on elderly or vulnerable occupants.

Many of these functions can work together. For example, one detector can turn on lights, play a voice alert, send a notification and trigger the alarm depending on the programmed conditions, time of day and alarm mode.

Voice announcement performance depends on speaker placement, the surrounding environment and system configuration.

Advanced Integration Options

The Ness M1 can also be integrated with many other systems to provide even greater convenience and automation.

Examples include:

• Opening or closing motorised blinds or curtains according to a schedule, room temperature or light level (additional hardware required)

• Integrating with Clipsal C-Bus so C-Bus light switches can control Ness M1 functions, while the Ness M1 can also control C-Bus lighting

• Integrating with audio or video systems to turn on music, switch on the TV or automatically display selected CCTV cameras

• Using AI cameras to detect people or vehicles much further away than traditional alarm detectors, including areas where alarm detectors are not installed. AI cameras can also work together with alarm detectors to improve detection accuracy, provide visual verification and help reduce unwanted alarms.

• Using number plate recognition cameras to automatically open the correct garage door when a recognised vehicle arrives

• Using facial recognition cameras to disarm the system and automatically unlock doors or open gates for authorised people

• Using thermal cameras to detect abnormal temperatures for fire prevention, equipment monitoring or maintenance alerts. Some long-range thermal cameras can detect people from several kilometres away in total darkness, depending on the camera model, lens, installation position and site conditions. This can be useful for large properties, farms, warehouses, industrial sites, perimeter protection and early warning applications.

• Integrating intercom systems to create a welcoming arrival experience. Imagine a visitor arriving after sunset. As they press the intercom button at the front gate, the fence lights automatically turn on. When you unlock or open the gate, pathway lights, garden lighting and water features come to life. As the visitor walks towards the house, lights continue to illuminate the path ahead. By the time they reach the front door, selected entrance and living area lights have already turned on to welcome them. At the same time, you receive the intercom call and can speak to your visitor or unlock the gate from inside the house or through the mobile app.

• Delivery Access: With a touch of a button on the keypad or mobile app, face recognition camera, or a PIN code entered on an outdoor access keypad, the vehicle gate can open automatically for an authorised delivery.

At the same time, the outside front area can be temporarily disarmed so the delivery person can safely enter and drop off the parcel.

After a programmed time, or when no further movement is detected in the area, the gate can automatically close and the outside front area can be armed again.

This allows authorised delivery access without disarming the rest of the property.

• Integrating with compatible sprinkler systems so irrigation can work together with the rest of the property. The Ness M1 can use information from rain sensors, soil moisture sensors, schedules and other integrated devices to decide when watering should be delayed, suspended or allowed. It can also coordinate irrigation with other automation functions, providing a single integrated system rather than multiple independent controllers.

• Automatically operating water pumps using schedules, flow sensors or water level sensors

Functions requiring additional hardware, software or specialised programming are not included in this package but can be quoted separately.

Everyday Example – Did You Leave the Garage Door Open?

Have you ever driven away from home and later wondered whether you left the garage door open?

You're not alone.

We've had customers accidentally leave their garage doors open and, unfortunately, in some cases their homes were broken into.

Where suitable equipment is installed, the system can monitor the garage door and remind you if it has been left open. It can also be programmed to close the garage door automatically under suitable programmed conditions.

Mobile App Control

Where supported, the mobile app can be used to:

• Arm and disarm the system remotely
• Receive alarm and system notifications
• Control connected lighting
• Trigger gates and garage doors
• View system status, including the current state of selected doors, gates and other connected devices.

A Ness M1 mobile app subscription may be required and is payable directly through the app store.
